"I will refresh tired bodies. I will restore tired souls" Jeremiah 31:25
What is Holy Yoga?
Holy Yoga is the practice of connecting our entire being; body, mind, and spirit with God; the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is a form of worship, specifically created to deepen your connection to Christ.
The sole purpose of Holy Yoga is to combine world class yoga with a Christ honoring experience that offers an opportunity for believers and non-believers alike to authentically connect with God. This is done by integrating His Word, prayer, worship, and the physical practice of yoga to Christian music.

There is a common misconception that yoga is a religion; it is not. Yoga is a spiritual discipline, much like prayer or fasting. Yoga has the capacity to enhance your personal belief and faith. At Holy Yoga, we practice with our minds set on Jesus, not with our minds emptied. We meditate on God's word.

Last Friday I was talking to my husband about wanting to research doing Yoga. We got into a discussion about the origins and I had quickly decided that was a route I didn’t want to go. After thinking for a few more minutes I said outloud, “Surely there is a way to practice yoga, that pleases Jesus!?” That SAME evening I was scrolling through some Friday Introductions on Instagram and Brooke Boon had posted. I only stopped because it was such a lovely yoga pose and I read: “Holy yoga”….THAT is what I wanted to research. So I have been on a week long pursuit of researching Holy Yoga.
ReplyDeleteI am very excited about what I have found- and have decided to pursue Holy Yoga…however I am coming up short when I think about where to begin. My husband and I are missionaries in Peru- so I don’t have access to any classes, or resources. I’ve been trying to find a place to start online but I’m just a little lost.
I was wondering if you could offer any suggestions to someone pursuing yoga for the first time? I appreciate it either way!
Happy Friday!
Hi Amanda, Great to hear from you! I'm so glad that you found Holy Yoga! Let me first say that Holy Yoga has been an incredible blessing to my life!
DeleteAs far as where to begin, following Holy Yogis on Instagram is a good place get a feel for the ministry. If you search #holyyoga you will find us. As a ministry, we are all pretty active in Instagram. Another great resource for getting started is the book Holy Yoga by Brooke Boon. It is required reading for instructors in training and it is does a great job of explaining all the questions surrounding yoga and religion as well as introducing holy yoga in general.
Another wonderful tool is Holy Yoga TV. You can find this on the holy yoga website (holyyoga.net) under the "media" tab. It is a monthly subscription of $10 and you get about 4 classes per month taught by master holy yoga instructors. For someone like you who has no classes near by, this is a great resource. If you have the internet, you can do it.
To get started specifically with the training, go to the website and click on the "training" tab. All the info is there. One of the first things you will do is fill out some paperwork with basic questions (nothing serious). Next, you will have an interview, which is really just a time for you to ask your questions surrounding Holy Yoga. You can go through these first two steps before committing to the program, so don't think you have to wait until you've figured everything out before doing the interview.
I hope that helped! If you have more questions, you can email me directly ~ abby.shroka@gmail.com
Excited for you!
